How to reduce the GPRS connection time between
Tungsten T and Sony Ericsson T68i
(Works with Cingular and AT&T Service)
(Tip from Perrotta at Palm Info Center)
When you use Phone Link to create a GPRS Network Service on your Tungsten T, it will create one with a long "log in script".
This long script is needed for initial setup (e.g., create data comm. account on your phone). However, it appears that such a long script is not needed for every single connection thereafter.
1. Duplicate the Service
2. Modify the script
Send ATD*99***4# (see note1 below)
Send CR
Wait For: CONNECT
EndNote1:
Where the "4" above corresponds to the CID of the data comm account that the TT created on your phone. You can find that out by checking the Network Log while connected (under Preferences> Communications> Network> Menu> Log). You will see that string embedded in there.
In my case (TT / T68i / Cingular Express/ Los Angeles) the total connection time (from the moment connect is clicked up to the point when the "Service Connection Progress" dialog disappears), has been reduced from about 12 seconds to about 6 seconds.
In Perrotta's case (TT / T68i / AT&T / NYC) the total connection time (from the moment connect is clicked up to the point when the "Service Connection Progress" dialog disappears), has been reduced from about 16 seconds to about 6 seconds!
